Filmed at iconic Byron Bay, against the canvas of Australia’s famous east coast surf beaches and rain forests, Bosch & Rockit is a raw and unapologetic exploration of unconscious parenting and the deeper themes of love and relationships.
Set in the late 1980s, before the era of mobile phones and social media, Bosch & Rockit is a powerful story told through the eyes of a 13-year-old boy.
As Rockit grapples to understand why his Mum’s not coming home, he embarks on a magical holiday with his father, Bosch, only to discover they’re actually running from the law.
Rockit finds a soulmate and then teenage love with Ash Ash, but it’s the ocean that gives him the security and calm he yearns from his parents. Ultimately Rockit is a boy nurtured and held by nature.
Inspired by true events, Bosch & Rockit is stirring, provocative and peppered with laconic Australian humour, a compelling story capturing the light and shade of life, reflecting our strength and our vulnerability.

Quotes
Tyler Atkins (Writer & Director): “We have a lot of flaws as human beings. This film explores those flaws and doesn’t hide them.”
Director’s Note
Bosch & Rockit is an evocative, poetic drama that explores the needs of human connection, self-understanding, the depths of struggle and the powerful life-affirming effect of love.
Based on a true story, I set out to design a feature film that quenches the thirst for meaningful cinema and illuminates the desperate need in humanity to re-examine and understand love.
Bosch & Rockit explores the concept of ‘chasing’ happiness by diving into the upbringing of a teenage boy, our protagonist; Rockit.
I chose to tell the story through Rockit’s eyes because I believe this perspective adds power to a story that explores the concept of parenting versus the reality of being a kid in today’s society.
My aim is to uplift, motivate and inspire audiences to ‘return to love’.
I believe that love has the ability to change lives and my hope is that Bosch & Rockit will become one of the great love stories on screen, one of the memorable films about love – relevant today, but also withstanding the test of time.
Location
The canvas for Bosch & Rockit is iconic Byron Bay with all its natural treasures.
This extraordinary backdrop of the Australian Coast is the perfect fit for our story and the style Tyler Atkins wanted to create to bring it to life.
He worked closely with DOP Ben Nott ACS to develop a shooting model that is based on taking full advantage of the natural light and scale of our remarkable seascape.
We shot Bosch & Rockit with anamorphic lenses to capture the phantasmagoric visuals, along with light cranes for the camera work and a drone to capture the vastness of our ocean which ultimately shows ‘a boy held by nature’.
The tone and feel will capture a sense that Bosch is being watched, hunted, a man on the run … the juxtaposition of a relaxed father and son surfing safari with the tension and suspense of not knowing what’s around the next corner … the complexities of this father and son relationship … the bonds of Rockit’s other connections to family and friends. Our point of view camera reflects his inner search for love.
Complementing one of the world’s most cinematically rich areas is the film’s equally extraordinary sound, guided by engineer Scott Mulready, while our soundtrack, featuring current Australian artist RY X and Dragon classics, reflects the sometimes haunting, often dramatic and always shifting moods of Bosch & Rockit.
